Where a law firm's work gets lost — and how a system fixes it

By Komolbek

Where a law firm's work gets lost

A law firm runs dozens of cases at once. Each has its own documents, deadlines, client correspondence and invoices. While there are few of them, everything fits in your head, in folders and in Telegram. Then there are more, and the familiar things start: a filing deadline noticed the day before, an invoice that missed some of the hours, a client asking "what's happening with my case?" and half an hour spent finding the answer.

That is not carelessness. It is simply too much information for a notebook and a chat.

What a system for legal practice does

A system for lawyers — also called a legal CRM — keeps everything about each case in one place. Not "somewhere in the email", but on the case's one page.

Cases. Every case has its own page: documents, notes, deadlines, which lawyer is responsible. Open the case and you see everything that has happened on it.

Clients. A client's page shows all their cases, the history of contact and what they were promised. When they call, nobody has to remember — you open their page.

Time and invoices. A lawyer marks time as the work happens, instead of reconstructing it from memory at the end of the month. The invoice is built from those marks.

Deadlines. Court dates and filing deadlines sit in one calendar with a reminder ahead of time. Missing one takes deliberate effort.

Conflicts of interest. Before a new case is taken, the system checks whether that party appeared in the firm's past cases. That used to be checked from memory and folders.

How we do it

We built such a system — Yuridix — and run it ourselves. You can see it on our work page.

If your work is different — a salon, a shop, a service company — the principle is the same: one system where everything is visible and nothing gets lost. You can work out the price of a system for your company in a minute: tick what is going worst, and you will see the package, the figure and the timeline.
